Introducing Declan James Potter

Thursday December 29th at 7:50am we welcomed Declan James Potter into our little family.  Typically this blog and has been used to document our travels, and we certainly hope/plan for that to continue.  But I have little doubt that it will now include a little of the family stuff, and the adventures of this little guy...

We've had a monumental past 48hrs, with moments ranging from excitement, pure joy, to immeasurable terror.  But in the end we were rewarded with 8 pounds 1 once, and 20 inches of perfection.  Mom did an great job staying healthy and taking care of Declan over the past 9 months, and I didn't think her efforts could be topped until she proved me wrong ten times over during labour.  She took care of business when things needed to happen, and I can't say enough to give her due credit for her efforts.  Not everything went according to plan, but I wouldn't change a thing.  We were planning on a home birth, but ended up having to go to the hospital at 5am on Thursday morning after labouring in home all night.  Less than 3 hours later Declan was born, and by 2:30pm we had him home for a relaxing afternoon, and evening in front of the fire, enjoying his presence, and watching World Junior Hockey.

Here are a few pictures that we've taken since Declans arrival.

He was none to happy with me when I had to take him from mom so she could get checked out, but it didn't take him long to realize that I'm good at cuddling too!

Nothing new for Auntie; there's been more than a few 'nephews' to hold in this family!  I think he slept here for more than 2hrs... :)
Bedtime, first night, at home...
First morning at home.  Declan and I head downstairs after a feeding for a little quiet time so we can let mom get some well deserved sleep.
