Colombo, Kandy, Dambulla, Sigiriya
Colombo... we just spent the better part of a day here (not even one night) as we arrived in the morning and headed out to Kandy in the late afternoon. Did a little walking tour and saw a few of the sites.
Was a pretty crazy/busy place!
Not the vehicle you want to see in Sri Lanka these days...
Made it to Kandy and took in some sites, some of which included elephants. Jillene decided to give this one a bath...
He felt she needed the same treatment...
Feeding them some bananas...
This was 70 elephant crossing a main highway to go down this side street (of which they do everyday at 2pm) and have a bath in the river. They come from the elephant orphanage of which is not situation next to a river. They should maybe think about finding new premises!
Golden temple in Dambula
Our bike breaking down on day 1! Nothing major, minor electrical short. But with not a single tool on my it is a good thing the mechanics here are cheap. Cost $2 to fix...
Sigiriya Rock... an old monastery on the top. We climbed to the top in 30+ degree temperature despite leaving at 8am. It was a sweaty morning!
Original painting on the wall on the way up in a cave dating back many hundreds of years... I forget how many though so I won't speculate!
Last set of stairs.
Looking down on the stairs installed for us, and the old stairs carved into the rocks the crazy monks used to use.
Picture at the top.
And heading back down.
This is the tooth relic temple in Kandy. It apparently contains a tooth of which once belonged to Buddha himself. I call bullshit...
