Landrilleros

So, after a harrowing adventure to get there (we really wanted to make it to the pacific) we landed in Landrillos.  A small town on the pacific coast, like nearly every other place on the pacific in Colombia, it is only accessible by boat.  A crazy gut wrenching bus to the port town Buenaventura, and then a boat ride over the pacific waters up the coast to Juanchaco, and a short ride in either a Jeep, or a Tractor pulling a trailer with benches up to Landrilleros.  And WE MADE IT!  We were tired, sweaty, and I know I was flithy...

And was it worth it; well we had to go to find out!  So I guess it was.  What hadn't really sunk in though was the fact that this is apparently one of the wettest places on earth.  It can rain something in the neighborhood of 20m annually.  And apparently this was the 'wet time of year'.  So our timing wasn't often.  I have seen torrential rains before, that is something new. What I haven't seen before is a torrential rain sustained for 8-10 hours, instead of the usual 10-15minutes!

So the surf was small; no surfing to be had.  And their was a ton of rain... we were happy we went, but we did cut our time here shorter than planned.  The access to the beach is below.  The amazing thing is, you can only go to the beach at low tide.  There is no beach at high tide because the water comes right up to the cliffs upon which the town is placed

Time to go for a walk and check this beach out.  It stopped raining, or at least slowed down for an afternoon!

Caves cut into the rocks by the ocean that went back forever.  Crazy to think that there is a hotel a mere 50-60 ft above my head!  Eerie...

Never gets old, we love to get tossed in the air...

Lunch time!

Mode of transportation for hire... tractor pulling a trailer!  You can charter it, or sometimes it's running as a bus.  There didn't seem to be any logic or schedule.  Just whenever the owner felt like going somewhere I guess...

Hiding out from the rain... not sure why we brought any toys at all (even thought we brought very few).  This is one of Declans favorites.  Lid goes on, lid comes off... :)

Our digs... and before you ask.  No, we did not swim in the pool.  When we got there actually it was empty (I guess they emptied it).  But I did watch it fill up in like 30 mins during the rain as they directed a down spout from the from a single building to drain into the pool.  Was insane...
