Cartagena

After a busy 6-7 weeks on the road for with Declan; we thought he deserved a little RnR; not to mention us as well!  :)  It had been a great introduction into the life of a backpacker for the little guy, but we were ready to spoil ourselves a little.  Cartagena proved to be an excellent decision, as it was the perfect place to set up a home base.  Our apartment was on the beach, but it was also only 7 minutes away to the Old Town, and numerous other world class island and beaches.  It was a very beautiful city with plenty to offer on the occasional afternoon run into town, and one of our main destinations for the weekends when we weren't busy studying Spanish with our teacher.

Here are a few pictures we took one Saturday as we explored the old town...

Another destination to get us out and away from the apartment was to go and see Playa Blanca.  This was a very popular beach accessible by boat, about 45 mins away from Cartagena.  From the pictures you'll see why people like it so much...  We like the beach in front of our apartment, but here you changed the sand from black to white and it gives you something quite spectacular.

Unfortunately we weren't the only ones there.  But the benefits of its popularity is that there are certain comforts readily available.  This is our tarp that we rented for the day, and behind is the restaurant that served us food and drinks all day. Beach, food, drinks, and a book.... all you need.  Thanks to Declans portable bed, our beach days were an all day affair!

Always having fun in the water....
